COMING TO SEE A COUNSELLOR
I have been awarded BACP Accreditation by the British Association Of Counsellors And Psychotherapy. My theoretical orientation is Person Centred. My ethos and way of working as a Person Centred therapist is to allow each client to feel in control and govern their process. I will carefully facilitate this by establishing what each client feels they would like from the counselling process. My aim is to assist you by understanding your needs, enabling me to 'fit' with whatever you choose to bring in therapy. I don't set the agenda. We will work together collaboratively to understand whatever is impacting on your well being. We can explore past experiences/relationships or the here and now. Having a quiet empathic space to feel fully heard with no judgement is where it starts.
Building a genuine and warm connection that is fully accepting forms the basis of gaining new clarity and deeper insight. Sometimes anger, sadness, depression, anxiety, trauma can often come to the surface when it's least expected. Feelings can sometimes become overwhelming. Awareness and making sense of difficult feelings, relationships, past or present can often lead the way to making choices and the changes you may be searching for.
Counselling is completely confidential and I abide by a strong code of ethics held by the BACP Ethical Framework for good ethical practice
I have learnt that often people fall into the 'comparison trap' and may dismiss to easily how they feel due to perceiving others problems to seem 'bigger' or more important than theirs in comparison. There is no judgement in the counselling process. Giving yourself permission to pay attention to whatever affects your emotional or physiological well being Is worthy of exploration when the time feels right for you. I 'value' and 'prize' the uniqueness of each client who decides to embark on their journey in counselling.
